Just a quick post here. I’ve been working on a new design and here it is! I hope you all enjoy it. My goals were to make the site feel “lighter.” The dark blue background gave it a heavy feel to me, at least.

We were in Phoenix for Christmas, and we wondered, as we always do when we travel, if we could ever be happy living there. Having fled the cold and wet New York winter, Arizona’s mild weather and breezy lifestyle seemed awfully enticing, but we’d hate to give up the energy and convenience of the city for a suburban, car-dependent existence. We’re just so used to taking the subway that the idea of having to drive everywhere seems like a drag.

I spent two weeks traveling through Peru in December and got a fresh update on what things cost. This was the low season, so in some cases prices were lower than they would have been May to September, but that is mostly true with hotels. Other things you spend money on are more constant. The currency stays pretty constant too, at around 3 soles to the dollar. Easy math.

All across Europe, increasingly health-conscious governments have been banning smoking in public places like hospitals, train stations, bars and restaurants. Austria, one of the few remaining countries in Western Europe to not yet institute a ban, will be tightening their anti-smoking rules beginning in 2009.
